The Silk Road tour is a trip to stir the imagination and fulfill your dreams of classic overland travel. Two thousand years ago traders set off to journey between the great empires of China, India, Persia and Rome. Known as the Silk Road, this route was eventually lost, its memory remaining only in legends. Now you can retrace those footsteps on this epic odyssey that stretches over 4,000km from Beijing to Kashgar, passing through many important centers along this ancient trade route.

Visit the Emin Minaret and the colorful bazaar. In the afternoon we'll drive three hours to Urumqi, fly across the Taklamakan Desert to Hotan.

Day 7 Hotan

Hotan, famous for its jade, carpets, embroidery, and silk (examples of the area's silk weavings can be seen in many Xinjiang museums). Camel ride to buried Buddhist cities in the late 19th century.

Day 8 Hotan to Kashgar

Drive to Kashgar via Yarkand. Visit Kashgar Old City.

Day 9 Kashgar

Sunday Bazaar, afternoon drive to Karakol Lake. Overnight in Yurt.

Day 10 Karakol Lake and Muztag Ata Mountain

Walking tour on the lake side, visit Kirghizes village. Drive back to Kashgar.

Day 11 Kashgar to Urumqi

Visite the tomb of Abakh Hoja and the Mosque. Afternoon flight to Urumqi.

Day 12 Urumqi

Trip ends after breakfast.

Trip Grade Explanation

    To demonstrate the relative difficulty of our Hiking, Biking, Family and other cultural holidays, we give each of them a grade by walking hours and altitude.
    Each of our trips is graded by "Demanding", "Moderate" and "Easy", taking into account factors such as the terrain, altitude and length of time walking. For each grade we use one of the words which indicates the level of difficulty.
    However this simple system of grades can only provide a general indication. Although we have tried to make our grading system as clear as possible, it cannot take into account your personal abilities or experience. We will be happy to provide information If you have any particular questions about the nature of a particular trip.
